Is celebrity culture beneficial towards the younger generation of today?

I am completely against how celebrities are depicted in the media magazines of today. There are over 400 gossip magazines in the market today that are us
ually published every week, imagine how many celebrities are scrutinised and exploited in just one of those magazines. Sadly many celebrities have been driven to things such as over dosing or suicide, and as soon as this happens its plastered all over the news about why they might have done it or what they think the story behind it was rather than giving the people closely affected some peace. Adding to this, many celebrities have been put or gone into rehab to help things such as drug and alcohol addictions. As good as this is they are scrutinised in every gossip magazine possible, surely this isn't going to benefit them when they are feeling vulnerable and are trying to get better. I'm sure that if you were in the same position you wouldn't want to see hundreds of made up stories of why you went to rehab, right? Not only are the publishers bad for letting this be printed onto their magazines but it is for any eyes to see, including teenagers who can be extremely influenced by what their 'role models' are doing and acting.

This brings me onto to the time where Justin Bieber was shown to be smoking marijuana, many magazines published this straight onto their front covers. This set off an explosion of shocking things such as young teenage girls hash tagging 'cutforbieber' and posting photos of cuts in their arms. Is this what gossip magazines are making the younger generation to act like?!

An example of the media leading someone to have a very public meltdown is Britney Spears. She was thrown into the media at a very young age and many magazines portrayed her as very innocent young girl. However, because she was in the limelight her whole life and constantly being in magazines and being scrutinised by many people very single day this built up and lead to her having a meltdown. She was all over the media over accusations of drugs which lead to her spending a short time in rehab and then found herself fighting for custody over her young children, due to this it led to her very public breakdown in which she then found herself in a vicious circle. She then was shamed for selling her sisters pregnancy photos to OK! magazine for around $1 million, this shows you how much the pressure of the media can affect someone and send them into a downward spiral.
